Missouri State University-West Plains edged out Mineral Area College in a thrilling five-set battle, claiming the Region 16 title with a final score of 3-2. The Lady Grizzlies, fueled by a dominant performance from Bianca Salvador, showcased their resilience and determination to secure the victory.

Salvador led the way for Missouri State-West Plains, registering an impressive 26.5 points, including 23 kills on a .386 hitting percentage. Her powerful swings and strategic placement kept the Mineral Area defense on their toes throughout the match.

The first two sets saw a back-and-forth battle, with Mineral Area College taking the early lead. However, Missouri State-West Plains rallied in the third and fourth sets, showcasing their offensive prowess and strong defensive play. The fifth set was a nail-biter, with both teams trading points. Ultimately, Missouri State-West Plains pulled away in the final stages, securing the victory and the Region 16 championship.

While Salvador was the standout performer for Missouri State-West Plains, other players also contributed significantly. Wiktoria Jakubik added 14 points with 13 kills, while Kaitlyn Aleshire chipped in with 13 points and 11 kills.

For Mineral Area College, Gabrielle Damborowiski led the team with 15 points and 12 kills. Lara Gilardi De Souza also had a strong performance, contributing 13 points and 9 kills. However, the Lady Cardinals struggled to maintain their offensive consistency, particularly in the final two sets, ultimately leading to their defeat.

The victory for Missouri State-West Plains marks a significant achievement for the program, showcasing their talent and potential. The Lady Grizzlies will now advance to the NJCAA Midwest-A District Tournament November 8-9, 2024 at Vincennes, Ind. , where they will look to continue their winning ways and make a deep run in the tournament.
